The U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is cracking down on drugs that can increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, the agency announced today.
The agency said it’s working with health authorities to stop such drugs from being sold without prescription.
The agency is also working with local law enforcement, as well as drug wholesalers to determine whether drugs that are being sold for sale without prescription are being marketed as safe.
The drug trade has been increasing over the last couple of years and has been a growing concern for some Americans.
“This is the latest FDA warning that prescription drugs have the potential to increase the risk of heart disease,” said Dr. Nachum Katlowitz, chief of cardiology and emergency medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
“Our work is designed to provide evidence of the safety of prescription drugs in the U. and to inform patients of the increased risk of cardiovascular events, such as stroke, and death,” Katlowitz added.
This news comes as the FDA is reviewing the data that has been presented to regulators, including a new drug safety review that was released in March.
It was based on a series of studies that found heart attack and stroke risk increased with daily doses of sildenafil, the active ingredient in the prescription Viagra.
The risk of death was the largest study to date, with a population of more than 100,000, and it was a study of more than 400,000 people.
“These are very significant findings that are very exciting,” Katlowitz added.
“These are the first steps we are going to take in the long-term and to see the long-term consequences of these findings.”
The FDA’s review was led by Dr. Lisa Gill, president of the American Heart Association.
“We have to do more,” she added.
“These are just the first steps we are going to take to help prevent these events, which are so serious, so dangerous and so deadly, and these are the steps we will take to help stop them.”
The FDA has yet to issue a ruling on the use of nitrates.
“We are taking all necessary steps in this area to ensure that we do not exceed the recommended dose and to prevent serious adverse events that may occur,” said Katlowitz.
“We remain committed to helping to ensure that prescription drugs, as well as those not approved for use in the United States, are safely and effectively dispensed and sold.”
Last week, the FDA added a warning to the labels of two prescription drugs that the agency said have not been approved for use in the United States.
The FDA said it will now require an additional label to include the word “risk” in the drug name.
The FDA said that the label may be revised to include the risk of heart attack or stroke in the labeling.
The drug labeling may also include other safety information, including a statement in the FDA’s statement, or a letter that the FDA sent to manufacturers to inform them of this.
